COMBAT SPORT NUTRITION

Fight week shouldn't feel like torture. Too many fighters starve, dehydrate, and hope for the best — sacrificing performance and risking their health in the process.

That's where Honey n Coconut comes in. We specialise exclusively in combat sport nutrition, guiding fighters through safe weight cuts, effective fight-week strategies, and recovery systems that actually work in the real world.

No crash diets. No last-minute panic. Just a proven fight camp system built around your body, your weight class, and your fight date.

WEIGHT CUTTING VS. WEIGHT MANAGEMENT

The biggest mistake fighters make is treating weight cutting as one thing that happens in the final week. It's actually two separate stages

Fight Camp Weight Management — during training camp, the goal is to gradually move body weight toward the target class. This reduces how much needs to happen later.

Fight Week Weight Cutting — in the final days before weigh-in, small adjustments to hydration, food volume, and gut weight bring you safely to your target.

When both stages are managed properly — not just the second one — making weight stops being something to survive and becomes something to execute with confidence.

WHY NUTRITION IS ESSENTIAL IN COMBAT SPORTS

In combat sports, nutrition is more than eating "healthy" — it's the difference between stepping into the ring ready to perform or struggling to make it through the first round.

Performance and Energy
A fighter's fuel directly affects performance. Carbohydrates restore glycogen to keep energy high during long training sessions, protein repairs muscle damage, and fats support hormones and long-term endurance. Even a 2% drop in hydration can impair strength, focus, and reaction times — margins that could cost you a fight.

Safe Weight Cuts
Many fighters attempt drastic diets or dangerous dehydration methods to make weight. These short-term fixes often leave athletes drained, dizzy, and at greater risk of injury. A structured plan allows fighters to reduce weight safely over several weeks, maintaining strength and endurance while still hitting the target on the scales.

Recovery and Longevity
Fight camps are intense — often pushing the body to its limits. Nutrition is the foundation of recovery: reducing inflammation, supporting sleep quality, and protecting long-term health. Consistent good nutrition doesn't just boost fight-night performance — it extends a fighter's career by reducing burnout.

At the centre of every fight camp is our approach — two connected systems working together.

The Philosophy: Performance : Recovery : Weight Management
Performance comes first — fuelling the training and the athlete. Recovery comes second — repair, glycogen replenishment, sleep, hydration. Weight management comes third, not because it doesn't matter, but because getting the first two right is what lets you make weight without destroying performance.

How it moves across camp:

  • Weeks 8–5 (Foundation): establishing control — typically 3–5kg above fight weight

  • Weeks 4–3 (Performance Phase): nutrition follows training load — typically 2–4kg above fight weight

  • Weeks 2–1 (Sharpen): gradual, deliberate adjustment — approaching 2–3kg above fight weight

  • Fight Week: only the final 1–2kg is managed acutely, with performance protected throughout — never a desperate last-minute scramble

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Do I need to work with you in person?
No. Coaching, check-ins, and fight week support are all delivered remotely — many fighters work with us throughout camp without ever meeting in person.

When should I start cutting weight?
Ideally six to eight weeks before your fight, so weight comes down gradually across camp rather than all at once in the final days.

How much weight should I expect to cut in fight week?
Only a small amount — most of the work happens during camp, so fight week is the final adjustment, not the whole plan.

What if my fight date changes or falls through?
Your plan pauses and rolls into Team Fuel or your next confirmed camp — see our packages for full details.
